Alright, how are you doing with this? How was the first day of the first week? Have you been paying attention to the relationships around you? Was it hard to not be on the internet for an entire day? If you prayed for God to bring a healthy friendship into your life and it has not happened yet, be patient, God is faithful. Okay, are you ready for the day of fasting this week?
Today while you fast, we are going to talk to God the Father again. However, our focus of this conversation will be about our friends. During this time, we will be praying for our in-person friends. These are the people that are on your sports team, in your academic club, in your apartment complex that you would consider friends. This type of prayer has a name, called intercessory prayer. That simply means that we are praying to lift others up. Paul encourages the people following Jesus in Ephesus with this, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Ephesians 6:18) So that is what you will be doing during this day. Throughout the day pray to God the Father to bless your friends and say the name of those friends. Pray that they would be filled with God the Spirit and continue to take steps toward Jesus. And if they do not have a relationship with Jesus, pray that they would maybe be curious about that and ask someone to have a conversation about it. Pray that God the Father will bring you and your friend closer, that your relationship will grow healthy and strong.
PRAYER
Dear heavenly Father,
I pray today for (your friend’s name here). God the Father, I pray that you would bless (friend’s Name). I pray that they would feel your presence in their life. God the Father, please help me and (friend’s name) to take steps toward Jesus together, help us to build one another up, and continuously encourage one another. God the Father, I thank you for this relationship in my life.
Amen.
