Hello and welcome to week 3 and day 3 of Internet Fasting. We are hoping that this time has been a fruitful experience for you as you intentionally unplug from your online presence and spend it intentionally investing in your in-person relationships and connecting with God the Father. This week, the task is going to be very practical.
In a letter to the Thessalonians, Paul writes, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) This response is how you will spend your day of fasting today. Take intentional time and write an encouraging note to two of your in-person friends. For this, think about all the good that you see in that person. Go deeper than the surface encouragements of, I like how you dress, or you are so athletic. Talk about characteristics of their personality that you see are strengths for them. It could be about how they treat others, how you see them encourage others. You could encourage them about how they lead others, or about the dedication to something. Whatever you see that is healthy and good, let them know that you see it, and that it matters. Notes of encouragement like this will do something special for the person receiving this note.
Take your time with this. Write it out, get an envelope and send it in the mail. This handwritten note will communicate worth, and care to that person. You could also let them know that you have been praying for them, and also for your friendship.
